New Employees = New Ideas?
Do you agree that one of the benefits of a new employees is the fresh ideas they inject?
Likewise, do you agree that once an employee is in the day-to-day routine, new ideas are less likely to develop?
Similarly, do you agree that experienced employees are more likely to be resistant to new ideas?
I once was in a brainstorming session with two other colleagues who were, at the top of their respective fields. Between us we had over 100 years of experience. We were hashing out new ideas to grow the business in the following year. We debated back and forth till we were confident that we had three ideas that would achieve growth. Around this time a new employee joined the business, she knew little about what did but, when we presented her with our ideas, she said they didn’t make sense and why not just do “x”. That simplified idea made more sense to her. Ultimately made more sense to our customers and achieved the growth we needed.
Not ready for more staff
I am sure we all can recite examples like the above. But what if you can not afford a new employee? What if you work for a large business at maximum head count capacity. Or a start up without the ability to hire new staff? How can you provide the business with the boost that your competitors may gain from employing new staff?
